One Curious Bird

•June 11, 2008 • 3 Comments

More like one dumb bird I’d say, but I guess you must take into account that it has a brain the size of a peanut. It started last Saturday on June 7, 2008, at around 10:30 AM, where I suddenly started to hear thumps coming from my basement window, which is near where I work on my laptop. I decided to go check out what was making these thump noises and it turned out to be a bird, as surprising as it may seem.

The thing that even surprised me more was that it didn’t leave! It stayed there trying to get in through the window by flying into it and banging his beak on the window. I felt really bad for it so I went outside and scared it away countless times, but this curious little bird just didn’t want to leave; it came back, as I started to hear those same thumping noises coming from the window again. That’s it, I said. So I then taped a towel on the outside of the window because I thought maybe it was seeing its reflection or something. After around 30 minutes, I started to hear the thumping coming from my bedroom window, which is also downstairs and by my laptop, and it turns out to be that same little curious bird. I asked myself countless times; what the hell does it want?

It’s Tuesday June 10, 2008, and the bird still continues to thump and bang on my window. I don’t know what to do because I don’t feel that it’s necessary to cover up all my windows with towels or other objects that will completely cover the outside of the window. Speaking of window, I decided to name the bird Window because it’s been at it for a few days and I think Window is a suitable and corny name for it.

Electrons in an Atom

•June 3, 2008 • No Comments

The big question that I’m trying to come across in this discussion is whether or not an electron falls into the nucleus of an atom. The module of the electron revolving around the nucleus, in a similar way to how the moon or a satellite orbits the earth, still remains a popular image of an atom and in the minds of many of us who don’t have a lot of experience or knowledge in this particular field. I don’t understand why this concept is still taught to many people, although it does teach the basic understanding of an atom, it’s not completely true. An electron doesn’t orbit the nucleus the way we think it does.

A theory that proves why an electron doesn’t orbit the nucleus in an atom states that an electron is electrically charged, and it has been known that an electric charge that undergoes acceleration, or changes velocity and direction, will emit electromagnetic radiation, losing energy in the process. As the electron loses energy it would simply spiral into the nucleus and the atom would collapse. However, this theory isn’t always the case either because probability comes into play. It became clear that a tiny object such as the electron cannot be treated as a classical particle having a definite position and velocity. The best we can do to show where and how an electron acts around the nucleus is to specify the probability of its location at any point in space. This is proven with the use of a probability density plot which shows the quantity of electron charge per unit volume of space at various distances from the nucleus. As you look closer to the nucleus the volume becomes very small, so the number of electrons per unit volume increases very rapidly which makes it appear as if the electron does fall into the nucleus!

However, it doesn’t stay in that place because that location isn’t where the electron has the highest probability of manifesting itself or where the maximum negative charge will be found. According to the radial probability plot, which is determined by multiplying the probability density by 4Πr2, its peak corresponds to the quantum number n=1, or commonly known as the Bohr radius and the first energy level. Just to clarify and sum this part of the discussion up, a probability density plot shows the electron density at any single point in the atom and a radial probability plot tells us the relative electron density summed over all points on a circle of given radius. All in all, the electron does fall into the nucleus, but it’s more likely for it to be found near the first energy level and quantum number n=1 at the Bohr radius.

Cockroach Soldier Drops

This is a study for determining the probability of each item drop from a cockroach soldier. For this study, I will be using a ring of wealth and will be killing a quantity of 2000 cockroach soldiers to get accurate results and probability ratios for each of the item drops. Down below includes a small fraction of the drops from each kill in order.

1. Rune Sq Shield, 1 Crimson Charm
2. 342GP
3. 8 Death Runes
4. 3 Mithril Ores, 1 Crimson Charm
5. 1 Strawberry Seed
6. 12 Death Runes
7. 190GP, 1 Gold Charm
8. 3 Mithril Ores, 1 Gold Charm
9. 1 Spirit Weed Seed
10. 11 Law Runes
11. 1 Adamantite Ore
12. 16 Law Runes
13. 6 Death Runes
14. 3 Mithril Ore, 1 Crimson Charm

Gaining Levels with New Fireworks!

•May 29, 2008 • No Comments

This post will depict a RuneScape suggestion I thought out of the blue today. I think it’s an exceptional, but not such a necessary, suggestion that would improve one small aspect I noticed when I advanced a level in RuneScape.

July 4th in United States of America or July 1st in Canada are a good example of days that display spectacular fireworks. Do you know of the fireworks that when blasted in the sky show certain shapes, patterns, and colors, more so the particular shapes. Well, I just thought of this neat idea that could and should replace the current display of fireworks when advancing levels in RuneScape. Currently, the display for fireworks are quite normal and plain. Why not have the display of the fireworks in the form of a shape, such as related to its skill that the level was advanced in. For instance, if one grew a herblore level, the display of the fireworks could show and form in the shape of a green herb of some sort. If you have any other ideas to add to this suggestion please feel free to include it in a comment below.

New RuneScape Ambition!

•May 20, 2008 • 1 Comment

Over the course of the next few weeks, during which school is drawing near to an end, and over the course of the couple of months in the summer, I’ll be smithing for a few marathons. My ambition shows that I desire to have level 99 smithing, which in my opinion is one of the coolest skills in RuneScape. If my calculations were done correctly I’m bound to complete this goal by the end of July, and no later then the end of August. During which I perform this quite difficult task, I will sum up a profit of nearly 6 million gp. My method(s) for reaching this such high level of smithing will remain a secret with me and will be revealed afterwards in the RuneScape Tips page once I’ve achieved this goal.

As my levels slowly increase, and you are a player seeking for smithing assistance, feel free to shoot me a private message via RuneScape or online chat asking for my assistance. My RuneScape name is A Matt Tress, and you will usually and most often see me in world 132.

A New Blog Site for Jaden?

•May 12, 2008 • No Comments

Yes, as a matter of fact, this is a new blog site for Jaden (or in the perspective of myself, it’s a new blog site for me). I don’t know for sure what exactly motivated me to create a new blog site, but I did and that’s all that matters. I guess I could say I started one because I’ve been playing a lot of RuneScape, an online MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). I’m also expanding on my web development knowledge, giving this blog site the purpose of displaying some of my work. I can’t think of anything better to use as a reason why I started this blog site. Well, I’ve always wanted to make a blog site for the longest time, but I just never had anything to write about, but now that I have some topics to write about such as RuneScape and my web development, for instance and other various things, I’m now able to post articles at a somewhat frequent pace.

Soon, I’ll be creating a list of links on the blogroll section that will redirect to other people’s blog sites, such as friends, family, and well known people, so if you know me and I know you, feel free to leave your blog site link in a comment post below and I’ll be sure to include it to the list. That’s all I have to say for now, though.
